@Jay
Sorry I left the discussion. I was away for the weekend with my spiritual family – at a church retreat.

This thing called love is irrational. Seriously, when I love others, I place myself in a vulnerable position. Why intentionally place yourself in potential harms way? It is not reasonable. Yet we do it.

When I give to my children, I experience love – this is a natural expression towards progeny. I also experience love when I give of myself to others. There is something about humans – we are compelled and most contented when we give to others. To sacrifice for others seems irrational – but it is not, for when we suffer for the benefit of another, we become greater than what we were prior to that sacrifice.

Like I stated, you can't have a discussion with irrational people. So I'll just end by answering you...

Like I stated, you can’t have a discussion with irrational people. So I’ll just end by answering your last questions.

“How can YOU say that God has not helped any of us with learning how to love?”

I didn’t, but that’s not what was in question. The problem I had was you were saying that god is THE only way to love. Which is not fact. It’s fine if you want to think that way, but don’t be so arrogant as to think that it’s actually true, and applies to everyone.

“You can say or think whatever you wish about me and my beliefs, you will not budge me a hair from where I am”

Because you are close minded.

“You can throw out your strawmen and any other fallice or rhetoric you like, I see them for what they are”

Obviously not as you fail to see the contradictions in that very statement.

“I notice you still did not answer the one important question, WHY?? Why are you in this conversation?”

You see, completely delusional. If you actually take the time to read what I wrote to you, you will see that I already answered that question, let me quote it for you:

“When you stop replying to my comments, I’ll have nothing left to discuss, so that’s why I’m here. Also I enjoy discussions and I think they are a healthy part of life. ”

“Why fight a battle you cannot win?”

This isn’t a battle, it’s a discussion.. Well it was until “justsomeone” left. Then it turned into a discussion with a brick wall. I already stated that I’m not here to prove anyone wrong.

“To jay you have no idea what your missing out on”

Very arrogant statement. That assumes you know me, and know my past experiences. No one but me can tell you what I’ve experienced, don’t every assume otherwise.

“Your probably a very depressed and bitter man who just sits at his desk everyday getting onto a college kids’ blog getting all pissed at random people attacking them calling them delusional and arrogant. How funny it is, why not investigate Gods love it does transform people’s lives and gives people purpose.”

Ok, you want to know something? I pride myself in being modest, but I think this will make my point very clear.

I am a very successful business man, and have dedicated my life to helping those who need my help the most. I have saved thousands of lives, and continue to give most of my profits away to those who can turn that into a home, food, and a life. How dare any of you think that I cannot ‘love’, ‘feel compassion’ or ‘be generous’, just because I don’t believe in your god. I will continue to contribute to this world in anyway I can, and I have proven that I don’t need a god to do that.

tsmith, your only perceiving my comments as being nasty, when I’ve already stated that that isn’t my intention. I get frustrated with those who cannot understand due to their own ignorance. Go read back to when I was talking with “justsomeone” You’ll find that that is how a decent discussion should be done.

To All:
The most rational thing for me to do now is to leave this discussion, as it’s just turning into arguments. Feel free to ignore everything I have said, but just think about how you present your arguments next time. Remember, your opinion is not necessarily fact, so be careful how you word things. If I were someone else, you would of actually just pushed me further away from ‘god’, so you might want to look at your approach to people like me.

Thank you for your time,
Peace,

Jay

First of all way back in the beginning there was only the experience of one person and how his relationship with God has helped to change how he has a relationship now with his father and how he could now find love he couldn’t before, Then I shared my experience as well as someone else. Where in there do you find errors??? How can YOU say that God has not helped any of us with learning how to love? Because it is not your experience??? How does that make us wrong? how does that give you the right to say our experiences of God are misguided and dillusional because yours have been. Does that make us misguided or you?
You can say or think whatever you wish about me and my beliefs, you will not budge me a hair from where I am. You can throw out your strawmen and any other fallice or rhetoric you like, I see them for what they are. I notice you still did not answer the one important question, WHY?? Why are you in this conversation? what do YOU hope to gain from it??? What dillusion is holding you here? Or is it just that you enjoy the battle? Why fight a battle you cannot win? Or is the battle really within you???
